Installation vs. Oct 2025
Describe your hair before getting microlocs.
My hair was completely natural (no relaxer), about 8 inches on install.
What hairstyles did you used to wear the most before getting microlocs?
Braids.
“What I love most about my locs is the profound sense of freedom they give me. It’s not just the freedom from the constant styling and time commitment of loose natural hair; it’s the freedom to simply be me.”
What made you decide to install microlocs?
Ultimately, the decision came down to authenticity and ease. I was on a personal journey to feel more true to myself, and I wanted a style that felt inherently me. Microlocs offered that perfect balance.
What’s your go-to-hairstyle?
Half up, half down bun.
How do you maintain your locs and what products do you use regularly?
Washing: Every 1 – 2 weeks (due to dry, sweaty scalp)
Reties: Every 7 weeks (adjusted from 6 weeks)
Moisture: Primarily water-based solutions
Favorite Product: Zoren Repair Oil (lightweight, effective for dry hair)
What do you love most about your locs and why?
What I love most about my locs is the profound sense of freedom they give me. It's not just the freedom from the constant styling and time commitment of loose natural hair; it’s the freedom to simply be me.
What has been the biggest challenge or adjustment?
The biggest challenge has been finding the right loctician for my maintenance.
What’s something you wish you knew before getting loc’d?
That I would love them so much.
What advice would you give someone considering installing Sisterlocks or microlocs?
Trust the process entirely, especially during the first year, and ensure you're doing it because it feels completely true to your personal style, not just for a trend.
Shout out your loctician! Who does your reties today?
