Installation vs. Dec 2025

Describe your hair before getting microlocs.

Natural. 6 - 7.5 inches long (longer at the middle and front).

What hairstyles did you used to wear the most before getting microlocs?

Knotless braids.

It is not a “no maintenance hairstyle.” It requires devoted care and it requires love. Give it that. Your locs are an investment; treat them as such.

What made you decide to install microlocs?

Honestly, I was tired of having to comb and manipulate my excessively tender scalp.

What’s your go-to-hairstyle?

Half up, half down (has literally been saving my life).

How do you maintain your locs and what products do you use regularly?

I retie every eight weeks. I've not been diligent with my wash routine because of my schedule. I moisturize at least once a week with water and oil, and once in 4 - 8 weeks with a light portion of leave-in conditioner.

What do you love most about your locs and why?

What I love most about my locs is how effortless and authentic they feel. I love everything about it! The freedom that comes with it, the versatility and flexibility, the fact that I haven't had to bother about getting my hair "done" because it's always done, that I don't have to take down my braids (I never looked forward to those 😂), that I can wash my hair one minute and be out of my house the next (a flex I never had with my loose natural hair), the complements I get!!! The list is endless!

What has been the biggest challenge or adjustment?

The reties!!😫 Having to deal with my tender scalp Sometimes styling.

What’s something you wish you knew before getting loc’d?

I wish I knew how many questions I'd be asked. (Is this your real hair? Can you take them out? Is it permanent? And so on.) The fact that people touch my hair without my permission. I wish I knew how much I'd love it (maybe I would have gotten it earlier).

What advice would you give someone considering installing Sisterlocks or microlocs?

You should get them! It's beautiful over here. Also, do not compare your locs to anyone's. Our hair textures / densities / volumes are completely different. Embrace yours and nurture them. It is not a “no maintenance hairstyle." It requires devoted care and it requires love. Give it that. Your locs are an investment; treat them as such. Fight against lint!

Shout out your loctician! Who does your reties today?

I am and have been my loctician for over 2 years now (from my first set that I had to take down). You go, girl! I deserve a pat on the back🤭
